The present invention relates to a preparation method of a high-efficiency and high-performance lithium battery separator. An inorganic material is selected and pretreated; the pretreated inorganic material is added during ethylene polymerization catalyzed by a single-site catalyst, and polymerization is performed to obtain single-site polyethylene containing inorganic material with a weight-average molecular weight of 200,000 to 500,000. The obtained polyethylene is extruded through a screw extruder to form polyethylene sheets. The polyethylene sheets are subjected to bi-axial or uniaxial stretching at high temperature to form pores and films. After high-temperature heat setting, the polyethylene film is slit and wound to obtain a lithium battery separator. Compared with products prepared by conventional dry processes, production efficiency is greatly improved; the obtained lithium battery separator exhibits excellent puncture resistance and tensile properties, with significantly higher porosity and much smaller pore size than those of conventional dry-process separators. Compared with conventional wet processes, the product quality is comparable, while the production process of the present invention is simple, solvent-free, environmentally friendly, energy-saving, highly safe, and greatly reduces production costs.
