The invention discloses a preparation method of polyester for matte film and the film thereof. Matte polyester is prepared by in-situ polymerization using the PTA process. IPA is added during the pulping stage to form a mixture of IPA and PTA, followed by conventional esterification to produce an esterified product. After esterification, magnesium acetate is added, and prepolycondensation and polycondensation are carried out to obtain polyester for matte film, which is then melt-extruded and biaxially stretched to produce a matte polyester film. Compared with medium-to-high matte polyester thick sheets prepared with the same conventional formula, the ultimate stretching ratio of the medium-to-high matte polyester thick sheet of the invention is increased by up to 22%, the thickness of the prepared high-matte polyester film is reduced by 32%, and high-matte polyester films below 10 μm can be produced.
