The invention provides a thermoplastic low-alcoholysis-degree polyvinyl alcohol barrier film as well as its preparation method and application. The barrier film comprises low-alcoholysis-degree polyvinyl alcohol and a plasticizer in a mass ratio of (70～95):(5～30). The low-alcoholysis-degree polyvinyl alcohol is a single component or a mixture with a polymerization degree of 800～3000 and an alcoholysis degree of 80～89 mol%. The obtained single-layer barrier film shows more than 60% reduction in oxygen transmission rate at 50% humidity compared with single-layer films with the same components prepared by casting or blow molding, and is suitable for food packaging and other barrier fields.
